New carriage house and guest suite addition at a Chestnut Hill estate, an Abrams Builders project

Custom Home Building in Newton & Brookline, MA

Ground-up construction built with the same design-build precision, historic sensitivity, and hands-on craftsmanship we bring to every Abrams Builders project across Greater Boston.

Building a custom home from the ground up calls for the same discipline as restoring a century-old estate: careful planning, sound construction knowledge, and one team accountable for every decision.

We bring architect, designer, and builder together under one integrated design-build process, led by a LEED-accredited principal, coordinating site work, permitting, and construction from the first sketch through final walkthrough. It's the same hands-on craftsmanship we've brought to historic restoration work across Newton's Gibbs Street and Gralynn Road, Fisher Hill and Heath Hill in Brookline, and the Chestnut Hill estates along the line between them, just applied to a home built from the ground up instead of an existing one. Our Process

How We Build Your Custom Home

The same four-stage process behind every Abrams Builders project, from a Newton Victorian restoration to a Chestnut Hill carriage house, applied to a home built from the ground up.

01

Discovery & Briefing

We start with your lot, your must-haves, and how you plan to live in the home. That brief becomes the standard every later decision gets measured against.

02

Concept & Design

We work alongside your architect, or bring in the right design partner, to turn that brief into a buildable plan that fits the site and the character of the neighborhood around it.

03

Development & Detailing

Permitting, engineering, material selections, and a firm budget and schedule get locked down before a single shovel goes into the ground.

04

Execution & Styling

Our team manages construction from foundation to final finishes, with one point of contact and the same craftsmanship that defines every Abrams Builders project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. We build on lots our clients already own across Newton, Brookline, and the surrounding Greater Boston area. We don't source land or build speculative homes.

The process is the same: design, permitting, and construction under one team, just starting from an empty lot instead of an existing structure. You get the same design-build coordination and craftsmanship either way.

We coordinate design and permitting as part of the build. If you already have an architect, we're glad to build from their plans; if not, we'll bring in the right design partner for your project.

A ground-up custom home typically takes a year or more from permitting through move-in, depending on scope and site conditions. We'll give you a realistic schedule before work begins.
